The Courage and Strength to Go On Prayer Of St Fanscis Of Assisi
Youth and EducationLord Jesus Christ, our strong Redeemer: As one of us a human child, you grew. As one of us, a human being, you faced temptation. As one of us, a child of God, you remained faithful to the heavenly Father's will. Be present with OUR children, Lord; and give them both the wisdom and the strength to face temptation faithfully, and so to overcome in your name. AMENChrist, who called the children to himself; Open our eyes to the promise that our children hold—in our society, and in your church. As they grow UP, help them to grow IN as well—to grow into more active involvement; to grow into leadership roles, to grow into fine young Christians. And help us to open up opportunities for them—in the world, and in the Church. AMEN
FamilyYou give a special gift to families, Lord—a gift you have hidden in a secret part of the mind of every child. You have give families your special gift of MEMORIES. Keep us mindful of them, Lord. And help us to make them special, strong … even holy … memories. With each vacation to places unknown, with each holiday tradition, with each book read, each meal shared, each hug given a memory is planted—a memory that will be passed on to future generations. Thank you for the memories. And help us to plant them with care. AMENWith an inventive and creative spirit, O Lord, you brought two very special people together. Bless, we pray, our days as husband and wife with even more creativity, imagination, wonder, joy, and love. Keep our eyes ever open to the remarkable ways in which you will make our love grow stronger. And may we always praise you as our loving Creator and Provider. AMEN Be with foster parents who willingly take on the challenges and responsibilities of raising a child for a period of time, O God. Guide them through the many day-to-day changes that a child inevitably brings, and direct them through the complex mazes of red tape often found in child agencies, government offices, and legal services. May your love, comfort, and security abound in their homes, and may the children in their care receive the acceptance they so desperately need. AMEN Gifts and GracesAll good things come from you, O Lord. We thank you for the gifts we have shared this holiday season—for the incomes that made them possible, for the friends and family who gave them. But mostly we thank you for the opportunity to share, and the Baby that made all of this possible. AMENYours is a message of liberty, O Lord—generously doled out and freely given. Freed from the spectre of death, free to live lives of love, we spread your liberating message, scouring the highways and byways of this world, inviting all to join in the merriment of your wedding banquet—free of charge! Remind us to invite everybody, regardless of race, gender, age or paycheck. Open us up, that all people may lift glass to glass in your heavenly hall and join to sing, "Free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty, free at last." AMEN O gracious Giver of all gifts: How often do your people open wide our hands to take the goodness you provide, and then—not satisfied—how often do we murmur or complain? Forgive our rash ingratitude, we pray, and move us to be satisfied. Through him who gave up everything for us, our Savior Jesus Christ. AMEN
Death and Life EternalGreat Shepherd-King, in so many ways, you have been both a Shepherd and a King to our loved ones now in heaven. Like a shepherd, you guarded, protected and carried our loved ones through every aspect of their entire lives. And like a king, you were enthroned in their hearts, reigning supreme in their thoughts, words, and actions. May we find comfort in the knowledge that you are still acting as both Shepherd and King to our loved ones now seated at your right hand. AMENHeavenly Father: You have promised that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. By the memory of those who have suffered for you name's sake in the past, whom your Holy Spirit preserved in the faith, keep your people firm in the sure hope that by your grace we too shall see what we await, the redemption of all the children of God. AMEN
Health and HealingFar be it from us, Eternal Lord, to guess your will or to peer knowingly into the future. And yet, despite the work of surgeons and care givers, it is becoming more and more evident that death is very near your servant (NAME). What shall we pray? That by some miracle you would exercise your might and stave off death? That by your mercy you would bring death peacefully and quickly? What shall we pray? Give us the will to care when care is a need, to pray, unceasingly, even when prayer seems hopeless, and to see that, even now, you hold this, your little lamb, close to your strong and loving breast. AMENLoving Father, comfort those coping with mental or emotional disorders. Give them hope for the future and confidence to carry on. Direct them to compassionate caregivers who will place them on the road to recovery. Uphold them as they travel through paralyzing pain. And comfort them along the way with the assurance that you WILL heal them and that you DO love them. AMEN O Immanuel, come to dwell with those who are suffering from long term illnesses in the hospital or home. Though their outer bodies may be "wasting away," renew them inwardly, we pray, with your Spirit's presence. Restore their faith in your power to bring them relief. Revive in them a sense of confidence and trust. And refresh them with the Bible's words of comfort, peace and rest. AMEN
Praise and ThanksgivingAll creation joins to praise you, Lord our God! Dogs and seals bark in joy as puppies yap and kittens purr; panthers roar their thanks as hyenas chuckle happy praise; waves break and clap their hands as sea foam bubbles up in joy; chipmunks chatter with the squirrels and howler monkeys whoop their glad hosannas. "You are the Lord," creation cries. "you are the Lord," we can not help but join in. "You, our Lord, we praise!" AMENIt sounds strange, Lord … but thanks for thanks! Thank you for the opportunity to thank you—for the gusto of Thanksgiving hymns, for the flavors of Thanksgiving meals, for the warmth of Thanksgiving fellowship, even for the laziness of Thanksgiving afternoons. Thank you for the opportunity to thank you, Lord—may we never stop doing so. AMEN
The Courage and Strength to Go OnGod, sometimes I just want to give up stop dead in my tracks and go off someplace and hide. I get so tired and don't want to try any more. Where can I find the courage and strength to go on? The hope that things will eventually get better isn't enough. The thought that adversity builds character does not/t convince me. The only thing that gives me any hope is the example of Your Son. He didn't quit even though He faced death which He conquered in His resurrection. May what he did teach me. May I find in His life the pattern according to which I can live mine. And may I try--at least in a small way-to urge others to keep trying even though they feel they've come up against a dead end. Amen.
The Apostles' CreedI believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God, the Father Almighty. From thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic* Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
The Lords PrayerOur Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name: thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the Kingdom, the Power and Glory, Forever and ever. Amen
Prayer To The Holy SpiritCome, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful, and enkindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And you shall renew the face of the earth. Let us pray. O God, who has taught the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant that by the gift of the same Spirit we may be always truly wise and ever rejoice in his consolation.
Prayer Of St Fanscis Of AssisiLord, make me an instrument of your peace:where there is hatred let me sow peace, where there is injury let me sow pardon, where there is doubt let me sow faith, where there is despair let me give hope where there is darkness let me give light where there is sadness let me give joy.
